Cultureplay is an analogue to help us remember cultural dynamics in the interpretation and understanding of sand scenes. The supposition is that culture is a vital part of individuation and the creation of sand scenes. Hence, ethnic identity, multiculturalism, historical heritage, and diversity become a part of our understanding of each sand scene. The Center for Culture & Sandplay offers continuing education, training, publications and consultation.
Cultureplay incorporates symbol-artifact research with the literature, art, myths, and key historical moments of one’s heritage. Cultureplay acknowledges the evolution of culture. The clinician’s interpretation includes generational perspectives. He or she sees the importance of honoring ancient traditions with modern and postmodern permutations in culture.
Narrative techniques such as poetry, letters-never-sent, and stories are combined with sandplay to produce a culture infused experience.
